The small, OIII rich planetary nebula WeBo 1 (PN G135.6+01.0), is an elongated blue oval near the "V" of the heart nebula. Visibility is greatly enhanced by the OIII filter. This has been called a Barium Star surrounded by a young planetary nebula.

Discovered by Webbink and Bond, It is morphologically extremely similar to SuWt 2, in being an almost mathematically perfect ellipse. Recent observations at KPNO reveal that its central star is also a close binary, with a sinusoidal light curve and a period of approximately 5 days.

IC 1182 is a peculiar galaxy that exhibits an eastwardly directed jet with blue knots (size 1.3' - 200,000 light years). Note the tail present to the upper left of the galaxy - as shown and explained by Bernhard Hubl on his wonderful site.

The jet is thought to be caused by a galaxy merger in progress.

]]>I'm not sure how this happened, but here I am on the front page of the local paper - "The Mansfield News Journal".

Jami Kenton, the reporter involved, contacted me and said that someone - a patient of mine - tipped her off that this might make a good story. Before I knew it, I was on the front page. The story is very nice with only one possible error - I told her my favorite image so far is the "Heart Nebula" and she wrote "Love Nebula". No biggie.

None of my images made the paper - just my ugly mug. My Trifid Nebula (M20) did make the internet version of the paper.

Initial image after combination of RGB and Hydrogen Alpha prior to color and other adjustments. Despite some color issues, I feel that this image overemphasizes the nebulosity and makes the image too opaque. In processing, the luminosity component was toned down to make the nebula more transparent.

Meade LXD75 8-inch f/4 Schmidt-Newtonian with Meade DSI Pro 2 imager and a 7nm Baader H-alpha filter.
300s exposures captured using Nebulosity 2
Auto guiding using a 60mm aperture 700mm focal length refractor using a DSI-1 with PHD
Master Dark and Flat created and applied using the Meade IP. Hot pixels removed using the Meade IP.
Using Nebulosity 2; the frames were normalized, pixels squared, and resize by a factor of two.
Frames were then aligned and stacked using DSS
