Lynds' Dark Nebula 1622 lies just outside and east of Barnard's Loop in the constellation Orion. It can be seen as a small inclusion in a northeastern wispy branch of emission nebulosity in this image of the loop. LDN 1622 is thought to be much closer than Orion's more famous nebulae, perhaps only 500 light-years away.

Here's a map of the objects in the field.

Also known as the "Boogeyman" or "Phantom" nebula, it appears as a spectral presence with glowing red eyes drifting through the sky.
