NGC 5866 - M102, or the Spindle Galaxy is a lenticular galaxy with a large amount of dust in it's extended disk. This is unusual for lenticular galaxies, as most of their dust is near the nucleus. The dust appears not to continue out to the edge of the galaxy, indicating that the dust may actually be a ring-like structure more centrally located, appearing to be near the periphery only because of the direct edge-on view.

Note the wispy filaments of dust in above the disk in this image.
