Open cluster M50 (NGC 2323) is probably about 3,200 light years distant and is about 20 light-years across, the central dense part being only about 10' or 10 light-years in diameter. There are about 200 stars in the main body.

This image is from a single 60 second frame (no darks, flats, or bias frames) taken during the total lunar eclipse of February 20, 2008. It was not meant to be a showpiece image, but was taken as something to do as the eclipse went on. It processed out so well, I put it in the gallery to get another Messier notch in my belt.
